My sisters and I spent our childhood exploring the woods, always fascinated by the wildlife around us. One of my favorite childhood memories was visiting the local animal shelter on the way to pick up my father from the train station. It was there that we adopted our beloved dog, Jane, a Cairn Terrier mix who looked just like Toto from The Wizard of Oz. Jane was a cherished part of our family until we moved to Burlington, where she remained with the new owners of our home.
After finishing high school in Burlington, I pursued nursing, working in the obstetrics unit at Toronto General Hospital before moving to the United States in 1989 with my husband and children. However, my love for animals never faded. In 2002, I became a volunteer at Tri-County Humane Society, where I gained valuable experience in animal handling, administering medication to pets, and creating a safe, loving environment for animals in need. I especially enjoyed forming bonds with animals who were not up for adoption due to illness or temperament.
After two decades of working with animals full-time, I decided to retire but quickly realized that I missed the daily companionship of pets. I began helping friends and family with their animals when they traveled, which led me to House and Hound Care.
